Christiane is far from a train spotter, yet when asked what her favorite day trip that Thorne Travel offers – 1st choice is the Jacobite Steam, She’s now been on it 3 times and has said it’s the mix of Scenery on route with a stop at either The Green Welly shop (A tourist attraction in itself) or Luss, The views and the journey across the Glenniffin Viaduct and another bonus for Christiane as the route is the same as shown in the Harry Potter films.
The company running the Jacobite service provided Warner Brothers with the train used as the Hogwarts Express in all of the movies and allowed them use of the Jacobite’s route for filming. Thorne Travel will take you by coach picking you up in Kilwinning around 9am and dropping off again around late in the evening.
Alison is a Theatre lovey, Dahllling! She said she loves the pre – theatre meal (wine!!!) the glamming up for an evening out, the feeling of entering theatres like the Kings in Glasgow or the Playhouse in Edinburgh with the feeling of history and earas gone by! The light, the music, the dancing and the different emotions different shows evoke, When asked then what her favourite show or musical was expecting Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera or The mousetrap some of the longest running shows but no I was wrong (This doesn’t happen often 😉 ) Dirty Dancing!!! Alison had the “Time of her life” – Going with the girls, having a giggle, enjoying the wine and seeing the show with songs that everyone could sing a long and dance to, was a great girls experience and the coach leaving from Kilwinning if meant no designated driver and everyone enjoyed the day!
It’s raining it’s pouring the kids won’t find it boring!! Scottish School holiday’s wouldn’t be the same without the hope of sunshine with the expected disappointment of an overcast day or a downpour! My husband rolls his eyes when I say the saying “There is no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing” as I am sure I say it at least once a month – however it really does ring true when it comes to our day trips, Us mums in Thorne Travel have taken a number of the day trips –
I loved the Chocolate Factory as did my little girl, getting to make 3 different chocolate treats a play in the pirate play park then onto the farm park 10/10 from me and the sun was shining! Blair Drummond however has taken place on a typical rainy day but do you know what, none of the kids even noticed, with their wellies on, waterproof trousers and their best tiger face they all had a ball! In 2017 we have some new day trips to offer including a trip to Cream O’Galloway with Go Boing!! (A specially built aerial netting adventure area – full of bounce!), Ice- cream and a visit to the farm yard.
Follow Thorne Experience on Facebook or check our website for more details, and come rain or shine we hope you’ll have a fantastic time on one of our experiences!
